Nomadland (2020) Review
"One of the things I loved most about this life is that there is no final goodbye. You know I've met hundreds of people out here and I don't ever say a final goodbye. I always just say "I'll see you down the road, And I do. And whether it's a month, or a year, or sometimes years, I see them again"
Nomadland is a 2020 American drama film written and directed by Chloe Zhao. The film is based on the book Nomadland: Surviving America in 21st century by Jessica Bruder.
The main characters in the film are a group of Nomads just like the name of the movie.
The main character of the film is a woman named Fern
She loses her job in 2011 due to an economic crisis in the United States. Her husband died a few years ago. With no more obligations in her life. Fern took all her savings, bought a small van, travel to different places and do some small jobs and decides to live the rest of her life as a Nomad.
The main character Fern is the backbone of the film. The story travels through her perspective.
The film shows the other nomads she meets on her journey and their lives.
The interesting fact about this movie is that most of the characters in the film are real life nomads.
Frances McDormand was the actress who played Fern. Sometimes you witness an acting performance that goes beyond words like brilliant or stunning. That's what Frances McDormand does with Fern.
That's the reason why she is nominated for best actress in the upcoming 93rd Academy awards.
For me, the favourite thing about this movie is it's cinematography and background score.
These two departments are important in all travel-oriented films.
The film becomes an experience to watch with its beautiful visuals, flawless direction and heart melting music.
Another important factor that makes the film great is it's Dialogues. There are very meaningful dialogues throughout the film which makes the audience who watches the film to get a totally different perspective about life.
Chloe Zhao has written excellent dialogues.
Nomadland has received two Golden globe awards for Best picture and Best Director this s year. Chloe Zhao became the second woman and the first Asian woman to win this award.
The film has now received 6 Oscar nominations this year for
Best picture, Best Actress, Best Director, Adapted screenplay, Cinematography and Film editing.
So there is a good chance that this film might get an Oscar.
1 hour 47 minutes is the runtime of this film
The film runs on a slow pace and it's not everyone's cup of tea.
But if you love travelling or living like a Nomad ,nor you have a different perspective towards life.
This film will be a different experience for you
VERDICT: THOUGHT PROVOKING
"It's strange that you encourage people to invest their whole life savings, go into debt, Just to buy a house they can't afford"
